The Role of Jesus Christ

Casting for the role of Jesus Christ

PROJECT: Book of Mormon Visual Library—Season 4, III Nephi
Audition Submission Deadline: Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

Season Four of this landmark production requires that we cast The Savior, Jesus Christ, as he appeared to the people of the American continent after his resurrection. This is a solemn endeavor requiring many levels of auditions and approvals.

We would appreciate your help as we seek the actor who has been prepared to portray this important role. Please share with anyone you know who embodies the following characteristics.

  • Adult Male.
  • Actor should appear to be in his 30’s.
  • Semitic facial characteristics are a plus.
  • Must currently be an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, maintaining a current temple recommend.
  • Must be fluent in the English language.
  • As this is a principal role, we recommend that only applicants with substantial acting background, experience, and training apply for this role.

As we review auditions, we will be looking for actors who convey…
  • a genuine ability to portray a love of people;
  • a solid understanding of acting principles and how to incorporate them;
  • the proper look and appearance;
  • reliability, dependability, flexibility, and one who works well with others.

  • We anticipate shooting sometime during the summer of 2020. This role will require a six to eight week on-set commitment in addition to all required preparations (growing hair and beard, physical training, memorization, rehearsals, personal study, spiritual preparation, etc).
  • Viable candidates may apply from anywhere in the world. If selected for in-person screening, we will provide travel and accommodations to applicants outside of Utah.
  • This production is not affiliated with any union and all contracts are a complete buyout.
  • Deadline for initial audition applications: Tuesday, December 31, 2019.

1) Please take 4 still photos. Current digital snapshots taken in natural daylight is preferred. Photos with your camera phone are completely acceptable.
    a) Headshot: from the chest upward. Looking at camera.
    b) Profile: from the chest upward. Facing directly to one side.
    c) Full body, facing camera. Wear comfortable clothing that fairly depicts your natural shape.  Please include your feet.
    d) Full body, profile.
2) Photos must be well lit, without obstructing accessories like sunglasses or hats.

Your AUDITION SIDE (performance material) may be accessed via this link:

You are auditioning for a principal role in a professional film production.
  • Please memorize and prepare the material for performance.
  • Study the history of your character deeply enough to understand and incorporate his character into your performance. Make strong choices.
  • Know what the words mean before you speak and remember that some of the best acting is often between the lines.
  • We expect auditions of the highest acting caliber. Thank you.

  1) This may be recorded on a smart phone or similar device. We recommend attaching it to a solid surface or tripod.
  2) Wardrobe: Casual, comfortable, earth tones—brown, tan, gray, green, blue, or white. Avoid solid black.
  3) Record your performance close enough to see your face clearly (from about your chest, upward).
  4) Make sure your video is clear, in focus, and has plenty of light. Natural light — filtered daylight — is often a good choice.
  5) Slate: Begin by introducing yourself. State your full name, age, and agency (if applicable).
  6) Please perform to your group of disciples (no more than 3 feet to either side of camera), expressing a personal understanding of, and connection with, each one.

Note: Some actors find it helpful to work with actual people. Others prefer to visualize. Whether you are speaking to people who are present or in your imagination is your choice. We shouldn’t see anyone but you.
  7) We are looking for natural performances for film. Not theatrical nor overly sensationalized.
  8) Check the sound. Make sure it is clear enough to hear without having to turn up the speakers to maximum volume.
  9) Please submit one take only of each side.
 10) Upload your video(s) to an online video-sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo.
IMPORTANT: Set the privacy settings to "Unlisted" (not “Private”) so we will be able to view it without a password. This means that only those with the URL address will be able to access your video.

Please remember that all initial applications must be submitted by Tuesday, December 31, 2019.
