Submission deadline for INTERNATIONAL ACTORS: Wednesday, September 26, 2018
Submission deadline for ACTOR AUDITIONS: The submission deadline has passed, but we are still accepting submissions for male roles. Please submit as soon as possible.
Submission deadline for BACKGROUND (Extras): As Soon As Possible

POSTED: July 24, 2018
PRODUCTION: Book of Mormon Visual Library Video Series
COMPANY: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon)
UNION STATUS: Non-Union
DISTRIBUTION VENUES: Digital Distribution
SHOOT LOCATIONS: LDS Motion Picture Studios, Utah; and the Deseret Ranches of Florida, near Orlando.
SHOOT DATES: Spring 2019

LDS: Actors must be active, temple-worthy members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as endorsed by their current ecclesiastical leader.

COMPENSATION: Paid. Rates are commensurate with corporate/educational union scale and position of the role (lead, day, featured, background, etc.). If applicable, agency fees are 10 percent. To be paid, participants must be legally documented to work in the United States.

LEAD ROLES may apply from any location. If selected, travel, lodging, and per diem will be provided in addition to the day-rate.

NEEDED
The production of 2019 will portray the peoples of Ancient America between about 160 – 77 B.C. We will need adult principal actors (mostly male) and background actors of all ages. Applicants may be of any ethnicity who physically resemble Native Americans of North, Central, or South America; or Pacific Islanders.

All applicants will be required to haveor growlong hair (naturally black, brown, or gray/white/bald due to age) and to have a naturally olive or brown complexion.

These characters' physical appearance will be based on what we know of the peoples of Ancient America: that they were descended from families who lived in the ancient Middle East and that their modern descendants are the indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America; and the Pacific Islands.

BACKGROUND ACTORS: Male and female, all ages. As noted above, an olive or brown complexion is essential. Please note that film-set days can be long, hot, and taxing. Participants should be in good health and ready and able to follow directions.
No Audition Sides required. See Steps 1 & 3 below for application details.

ROLES

Following are the principal roles for Year 3 of the Book of Mormon Visual Library Video Series. All but two principal roles are male. We need strong adult actors of all ages to fill the roles this year and in the years to come. Please help us by honing your acting skills and auditioning as often as possible.

All of the following roles require a proficient acting technique. (The scriptural references are for your personal study of the character and storyline.)

AUDITION SIDES (your performance material) may be found here: https://goo.gl/Ffgv2Y

Initial auditions for the principal male characters listed above will be chosen from any one of six sides. You may select any two of the sides to perform. We recommend that you create a notable difference (character, personality, energy, contrast) between the two characters. We would like to see your range.

For women, there is only one side—Lamoni’s Queen—for both roles. Even if you are auditioning for the role of Abish, please perform the side for the Queen.

This should go without saying, but we have learned from experience that we need to make this note. You are auditioning for a principal role in a professional film production.
  • Please memorize the material.
  • Study the history of your character deeply enough to understand and incorporate his character into your performance.
  • Know what the words mean before you speak and remember that some of the best acting is often between the lines.
  • We expect auditions of the highest acting caliber. Thank you.

**PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AS OUTLINED**

- If you are auditioning for background or children, you do not need to post a video, but we do need your photos as directed.
- If you are auditioning for a speaking role, prepare according to the directions listed above.
- Please do not submit any videos other than your audition performance.

TO APPLY

STEP ONE:  CURRENT PHOTOS
(1) Please take 4 still photos. A current digital snapshot is preferred. Photos with your camera phone are fine.
 - Headshot: from the chest upward. Looking at camera.
 - Profile: from the chest upward. Facing directly to one side.
 - Full body, facing camera. Wear comfortable clothing that fairly depicts your natural shape. Please include your feet.
 - Full body, profile.
(2) Photos must be well lit, without obstructing accessories like sunglasses or hats.

STEP TWO:  RECORD YOUR AUDITION
This applies only to principal roles. If you are applying as a background actor, skip to STEP 3.

We recommend taking sufficient time to prepare and rehearse the scene(s) adequately. Please memorize your lines.
1) This may be recorded on a smart phone or similar device. Please attach it to a solid surface or tripod.
2) Wardrobe: Casual, comfortable, earth tones—brown, tan, gray, green. Avoid solid black.
3) Record your performance close enough to see your face clearly (from about your chest, upward).
4) Make sure your video is clear, in focus, and has plenty of light. Natural light — filtered daylight — is often a good choice.
5) Slate: Begin by introducing yourself. State your full name, age, and agency (if applicable).
6) Perform to camera, just barely off to one side as if your scene partner were operating the camera. (Not directly into the lens, but almost.)
a) If “speaking to a multitude,” expand your audience to no more than 3 feet on either side of camera.
b) Also, HINT: Find specific people in your audience to help make your performance more personal.
7) If you are submitting more than one side, please submit each one as a separate video.
8) We are looking for natural performances for film. Not theatrical nor overly sensationalized.
9) Check the sound. Make sure it is clear enough to hear without having to turn up the speakers to maximum volume.
10) Please submit one take only of each side.
11) Upload your video(s) to an online site like YouTube or Vimeo.
IMPORTANT: Set the privacy settings to "Unlisted" (not “Private”) so we will be able to view it without a password. This means that only those with the URL address will be able to access your video.

STEP THREE:  COMPLETE the FORM
Go to this link and complete the application form. You will be able to upload four photo files to your form. It also has two entry spaces where you may post the URL address for your video(s).

PLEASE RESPOND as soon as possible. We recommend not waiting until the due date.
